Elton Barker

Elton Barker is Professor of Greek Literature and Culture at The Open University (UK). He has published widely on a range of genres, including Entering the Agon (Oxford, 2009), which explored representations of debate in Homer, historiography and tragedy.

Since 2008, he has been leading efforts to develop digital approaches for the study of the ancient world, from the Hestia project (e.g., New Worlds out of Old Texts, Oxford 2016) to the Digital Periegesis.

After founding the humanities linked data initiative Pelagios in 2011, he is Partnership Secretary of the Pelagios Network, a community of practice built around linking information online launched in 2019.
